Entering into a long term drug rehab is a huge change for anyone to enter into. Then again it may be the best choice someone can make for themselves in life. The truth is that short term rehab programs do not produce as great of results as a long term program can. The longer a person spends in treatment the more likely they can succeed. Becoming addicted didn't take a night and becoming sober will not happen overnight as well. The more a person wants to become sober the more a long term program is necessary. One can go to a few meetings here and there but the truth is that 12 step people say you should go to 90 meetings in your first 90 days. This in itself is a long term program as the person is making a commitment to sobriety. Inpatient long term programs may work even better. The simple fact of the matter is the longer a person spends away from drugs the better chance they have at staying sober.

Imagine the strain being put on a person's family when one is drawn into the world of drug and alcohol addiction. The mother, the father, the wife, the husband, the son, the daughter are all suffering as is the addict. Addiction is not only a problem for the individual but for everyone around the individual as well. One cannot think of the problem as only a problem for himself or herself. I still remember the pain my mother, father, brother, and other relatives went through. They wouldn't allow me at family reunions. They wouldn't allow me in their homes. They changed the locks and stopped accepting my phone calls. Then they started looking for successful drugs rehabilitation programs for me. I fought them at first, choosing to live out of a car rather than ask for their help. I wouldn't give in. It pained them as much as it pained me. After several months of living this way I finally gave in and accepted their help. I went to a rehabilitation program and my life has been great since.
I no longer hang around with people who are constantly looking for a chance to steal my stuff. I actually have money to purchase the items that I want to purchase. I have a life finally. This is something I didn't have for many years. I looked into 12 step only to be scared away by having to surrender myself to something greater than myself. I always knew that I had the power and there was no way I was going to surrender that. Finally I found a program that worked for me and my life changed for the better. I am so happy I did so. Drug rehabilitation is great.
